Fuette held on for 4th with Billy Cox coming across in 5th place for car owner Rick Lindhardt. Heat races were captured by Chuck Groat and Powell. Posey captured his 5th AutoTrader fast qualifier award on his final lap with a time of 15.303 and a average lap speed of 88.218 Condolences to the Waters family The Utah Ford Focus Midget family extends it's condolences to the family of our fellow Midget and Sprint car racer Jim Waters. On Friday night August 8th, Jim and Donna's son, Leo James Waters III was taken to the hospital and placed on life support. On Sunday after being removed from life support James passed away. In addition on Saturday it was discovered that Donna's sister had passed away in her apartment 2 days earlier. Jim has helped numerous area racers throughout the years and is known throughout the Western States as a fierce and winning sprint car driver. Donna has served as the registrar and secretary/treasurer for many years. Our hearts go out to Jim, Donna, Danielle and family during this difficult time. Contributions to help with the funeral expenses may be made through the Utah Motorsports Foundation Congratulations to J.R. Williams! Our good friend and fellow competitor J.R. Williams who tows to Salt Lake weekly from Carson City, Nevada took advantage of the week off, loaded his dirt Focus into the trailer and headed for Petaluma, CA on Saturday, August 16th for a non-USAC Focus event. J.R. was involved in a incident with the wall avoiding a spinning car during practice. A group of volunteers led by former USAC champion Marc DeBeumont helped repair damage to the rear of the car in time of the heat race only to discover the front end damage was worse than thought. After dropping out ot the heat race the group had just enough time to install a new front axle and right front, having to "guess" on the setup. Starting on the outside of row 1, J.R. went on to capture the main event victory. Not bad for a 73 year young racer, not bad at all! |
